The main idea of Newnham Forest station itself is to cram in as much detail into a small workable (and believable) environment. This plan, although rough, is the first real concept drawing of the trackplan. If I can get my head around XTrkCad I may computerise this trackplan. Until then, look at this plan and think small and rural thoughts.

Introduction

The Newnham Forest Railway is the name of a model railway project which currently aims to recreate a preserved railway from the present day. The main focus of the project will be on the villiage terminus of the line, Newnham Forest. This will be a small affair, a single-line running into a small station with a main 'through' platform and bay platform. Additionally there will be a small engine shed/stabling area for locomotives. The station would have originally been a through station but due to the NFR only have a small amount of money to spend on tracklaying the station is the current western extent of the line.

The line 'historically' was under the control of the Great Western Railway before being absorbed into the British Railways Western Region. This means that the majority of the traffic on the line will be based around GWR branch line locomotives including a 14xx and autotrailer. Typically with preserved lines there is a lot of work to be done to bring the loco fleet up to scratch: currently operational are an old 0-4-0 tank engine and a tiny 0-4-0 Deustche Bahn steam engine. A 14xx is currently awaiting some work on the engine.

So with the layout to build and some serious refurbishment to be done on the fleet it's likely to be a big task laying ahead to get the Newnham Forest Railway up and running.
